The Dreaded Dim Overhead Display...
I'll be pulling mine down this weekend and grabbing my solder stuff.
Watched a few video's on youtube, hopefully it's that easy.

2003 7.3. New to me the console never worked, just black. I pulled it down and just like everyone says, pull it hard, cringe, pull a little harder and it pops right down. Mine didn't break.
All the capacitors were soldered in solidly, I found a guy on ebay in MN, $22 flat rate fix and he pays return shipping. (another guy mentioned on here, wanted like $29 and when I called to confirm and was told there is a $69 diagnosis fee that was NOT mentioned in his advertising, bad business) I sent it USPS, with tracking updates, it was signed for and not more than about 20 minutes later I received an email with a tracking number it was on its way back to me!
This all happened today 8-11-17. Very impressed with his speed, now I wait for it. When I get it back and reinstall, I will update this post.

Got mine repaired over the weekend.
Pulled my display and had 2 of the 680 chips loose. Got out the fine soldering iron and went to work. 1/2 hour later it was all good. I can once again see my overhead.
Next go around I may send it in.
