Posted a few days ago that I was to old and blind to fix my overhead console. Shipped it off to California and paid $39.99 to have it fixed. Got it back today and all is well.
Looks like they soldered each and every resistor and chip with a clean solid bead of solder. Popped it back in the truck and it works like a champ. They turned it around quick, went out the same day they got it from me. If it keeps working like it is I am a happy camper !!!! If anybody needs contact info etc. just shoot me a PM. After all..... some of us can't do this one ourselves !!! Most can but I couldn't.
I will Jay, as soon as I run it for more than 2 minutes ! From the looks of the work they know what they are doing. Some of the prettiest soldering I've ever seen. This hot weather we're having will tell the tale. I'm headed out in it tomorrow and if it takes the bumps and heat where I'll be, I'll give them a plug for sure.
Seems like I recall Pop recommending you search for a local shortwave radio guy if you can't solder it yourself. His thought was they would probably do it for around $5 or to give them something else to talk about since they typically love to tinker with electronics.
Pop may have, I don't remember. I probably could have beat the price but didn't want to ride around and call around hunting somebody. These folks do digital speedometers, electronic dashes and all sorts of things. They seem to be set up for it and promised a quick turnaround which they delivered. Where I live, it wouldn't take long to spend $40.00 on fuel driving back and forth fooling with it, know what I mean
I know what you mean Bob. Different perspective I guess. I drive around a lot (look at my mileage). Driving around doesn't bother me.
I on the other hand, do have some trust issues when it comes to mailing my stuff off to some "internet" company hoping I get it back like I want it. I don't like buying stuff off ebay either since I'm always worried about getting screwed, if you know what I mean.
You're right to worry, it's way easy to get burned on the net. I was lucky this time. I'll admit, it crossed my mind that this may not end "happy". You just never know !
I usually don't hesitate to tear into anything but it would be easy for me to make a mess on this job. "A mans gotta know his limitations! "
