Read a article in a 4 Wheel Drive magazine yesterday on our 2017 SD and they said that HP and torques were limited electronically until after 3rd gear to protect driveline. Also said it now reaches torque curve at about 1900 RPM's instead of 1700 like my 2011. If I had known that I would have gotten the 3.73 gears instead of the 3.55 for pulling my toy box. Seem to get better mileage from my 2011 than this new one and see no improvement in pulling performance.
3.73s are only offered in gas trucks. SRW diesels are 3.55s or 3.31s and DRWs are 3.55 or 4.10s. 450 is 4.30s. The torque curve was moved up. Once rolling, my 2017 tows circles around my 2012. My 2012 did get loads moving easier thanks to its smaller charger. After that, the 2017 blows it's doors off.
I can believe that. I seriously feel this truck is in its sweet spot around 1800-1900 RPM's, which translates to about 77-78 mph w/ 3.55 rear and 20" wheels. This is a load I picked up yesterday. 4500lb trailer and about 9000 cargo. Not very high, but high enough to grab a little wind. If I could keep it under 70 I know I would get better fuel mileage but I can't do it. This truck likes it right where it's sitting.
My understanding is that the DRW limits torque only in 1st gear. I'm glad my F450 is limited; even with the limit, it leaves 4 long tracks on dry pavement if I hit it between 5 and 10 MPH.
If I turn off traction control in my srw 6.7 I can't really get the tires to spin at all unless I hit a sharp corner. I assumed with 900 plus ft/lb of torque this thing would roast the tires. Is there something wrong with my truck? Seriously. Thx

These comments on this post are all very subjective. I haven't been impressed with the power of my truck 17 SD with the 6.7 either. I also have an 05 Dodge and with a mild tune and it seems that it has just as much power as my Super Duty while daily driving and towing.
I think we read and talk to so many people about how much power the new 17 6.7 has and it raises our expectations to an unreasonable level. At first I was extremely disappointed with the power level but now I'm just enjoying the truck for all the extra's it has and how well it actually handles with a load behind it because in reality it has "enough" power to get the job done.
