Torque vs gear change...

Does the torque and HP of a truck increase with a lower (numericaly higher) differential? Or does just the torque increase?

I see on the Ford web site, for example, a truck with a 3.73 diff can tow 13,500 but the same truck with a 4.1 diff can tow 15,000. Just curious?

Engine torque is unaffected with a gear change. The upside with 4.10gears vs 3.73 gears is the engine does not have to work as hard to get the truck going with 4.10 gears. Downside is higher engine rpm's which will lead to less fuel economy on the highway. Around town in theory fuel econmy should be better with the 4.10's

Torque at the rear wheels increases with a lower (numerically higher) gear ratio. I would have to imagine once the wheels are in motion, if torque is higher, horsepower at the rear wheels would have to be higher as well....

Well I do know that HP is a measurement of the rate at which work is done and that hp is just calculated based on torque at the rear wheels...

I am changing gears this coming Friday to the equivelent of 4.10's from 3.73's so I hope that it is a noticable difference...
