My turn: questions about F100 Crown Vic swap

Ok, so I'm sold by the math of the CV swap - lowers, adds sway bar, better geometry, modern steering, and brake improvement for around $400 (in my case.)

But I'm loving my 15" hubcaps.

Has anyone sucessfully mounted a 15" wheel on a CV swap? different calipers/rotors? shaving parts?

I'm looking at an '08 CVPI71 donor, if that makes a difference (I don't think it does, save springs?)

I suppose I could always go with something like this for a similar look?

Alternatively, these are from an 05 Mustang (so easily replaced if bent) and are 16" - probably a better option?

I'm also curious as to why folks aren't using the rear axle from the 03+ CV when they do this conversion?

Wouldn't that give you a matched, 4-wheel disc brake system? Possibly swipe the MC and/or Booster from the donor also?

What am I missing?

Also, ran across this for the bumpside trucks, I think; is there a similar blueprint for the dentside conversion?

Some guys do use the CV rear. But it is real wide and I personally think it looks goofy, particularly under a bumpside.

As for 15" wheels, I think it really depends upon the design of the wheel. Steel wheels are probably a no go, due to their shape on the inside of the rim. Some aluminum wheels will fit. I put a 15x4 on the front of Nanner just to check fitment.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...after-all.html

The bumpside CV install dimensions are the same as dents up front.

There is a CV swap group on FB with several vendors that make parts to make the CV install as painless as possible.

It will cost you more than $400 when it's all said and done, but wow, I really like how mine drives and rides now.

yeah the crown vic rear is wide. you can use it but the choices of wheels with the back spacing to work are much more limited.

not meaning to be lazy, but I don't pick up the CV until Thursday - what's the width delta between the F100 and the 03+ CV rear axle?

It is funny that the rear track of the CV would be wider than the front track?

The word "would" is what I was going for.
I don't know if it is or not. I know some of the threads I have seen I don't remember the measurement of front/rear tracks.

I know 1 thread that used the CV rear he was on a flare side and he made the rear fenders wider. This can be done easy on a flare side with bolt on fenders.

I have been following all the CV swaps as I would love to do it to my 81 F100 flare side someday.

parts car

well, my new suspension and brakes arrived (and by arrived, I mean that I got up at 4am to drive a 6.5hr roundtrip to get this thing)

also, found a photo (sort of) of the 16" V6 Mustang 'Halibrand-inspired" wheel on an F100. THis will be my fallback plan if I can't McGuyver up a way of making the 15" wheels work. (Has anyone looked at custom hub modifications to the CV stuff?)

I went with a set of the Mustang wheels pictured above; there are great deals on these as folks are upsizing the wheels on their V6 Mustangs and literally dumping the 16"s with tires on Craigslist.

It just occurred to me that I might need the PS pump and MC/Booster from the P71 - can anyone confirm this?

My truck has both PS and PB already...
