Replacement PCM, rear end doesn't match...

I can find replacements that match everything except the differential gears, my 2003 E350 'gutted' club wagon has 4.10 and the replacements have 3.55. The speedo and odometer run 1.15x normal using the replacement PCM (if my math is correct that is right about the difference in the two gear sets).

Couple of thoughts:

- are there any 'tuning kits' that let you change the PCMs setting for gears?

- are 4.10 geared E350s that much harder to come by or just my luck?

- would 3.55 gears be better for my use: 20" high top camper rig, not heavily built out (no large water tanks or propane, no battery bank, no roof rack or rear bumper rack or off road accessories), often driven on steep gravel roads but no real offroading.

- is changing the gears out easier than swapping the whole rear axle?

thanks tons!

A tuner would be way cheaper than a gear job. Personally I prefer to have the power of the 4.10 for sure.

I agree. 5star did my tune but it's not cheap either

Good feedback, thanks.

I spoke with 5-star a couple of times and they did not sound certain I could alter the gearing, which I thought would be very common for ppl making speed/power alterations to their rig... so to be clear, I have a working PCM that has the wrong gear ratios entered so the speedo and odometer are over reporting/accumulating.

Does the 5-star system lock onto one PCM/VIN? could I copy the factory base file (do they call it a binary?) of a PCM into a different one to get the gears correct then tune that, all by using the 5-star tuner? I have been a bit unclear of the process and I have already purchased one salvage PCM that was not exactly what I needed...

it's vin sensitive

it seems odd that they can't account for gearing changes
