Gearing

For those of you that have changed the gearing, what is the lowest gear the stock carrier will allow? I am interested in adding 4.56 both front and rear.

Thanks

4.88 if I remember when I was looking at them ... due to rev 8.8 front diff ... that is based on what I found available ... not what could potentially fit! ... I think the normal 8.8 went way up to the 6.? something!

Thanks 64F10, did you install new gearing in your truck and if so what gear was it? I am looking for better pulling power and I think the 4.56 is what I am after. I know the tuner would be better for the money but I'm not just ready to mess with that yet.

Thanks

I did not put my own gears in ... had a local shop do it! You'll need some sort of tune with 4.56 gears ... unless you've 35" or taller tire because from what I hear Ford's PCM machine won't do it for lower gear combos! ... ya, seems crazy to me! But they could only get me to about 12% with my 33"'s. Had to get a tuner to dial things back in ...
