I am looking at buying an f600, vin F60CRF11670. Can anyone break down the engine/etc fdom the vin? Guy says it is a 66, but the body is a 67-72. He says the engine is a 292, but i can tell it is an FE block...so I thought i would try to get some better info.
FT engines look similar to FE engines, but FE engines were not installed in anything larger than an F350.[/QUOTE]
Bill,
I actually knew that...and if I had engaged my brain, I would have looked like less of a doofus! lol If I remember right, the FT's have 4 ring pistons, steel cranks, and the balance was different. (I forget which was internal...)
Thank you for the number crunching!
I had tentatively ID'ed the truck as 1968 to 1972, strictly on the heater controls.
Dad had a 292 in a 1955 F600 when I was a kid...and those Y blocks are kind of distinctive!
I remember when my dad worked for a feedlot back in the '80's. He was constantly buying Holley 2V's for their F-600 feed trucks. I told him that I wanted a couple to rebuild to put on my 72 F-100 302. He gave me a couple which turned out to have the venturi's burned and melted in them. That was the state of all of them he replaced with new carbs.
