There has been a lot of discussion on dash mounting the Hydra unit. Now I don`t have one yet, it will becoming in a week or so, but could you not attach a small rare earth button magnet to the back of it and one to your dash and you could place it anywhere. Just asking since I don't have mine yet or whether the magnet would affect the controller. Lots of vendors online offer these magnets in a variety combos to attach various things in your vehicle. Seems it would be a better option than cutting a hole or pulling your dash apart.

It can be cleanly and easily routed to the area below and to the left of the steering wheel. I just installed mine a little over a month ago and routed the cable under the removable kick panel. I used the velcro that came with the kit and i am very pleased how easy it was and how well it turned out. No holes drilled.

^^^ Same here, ^^^ I pondered using a gaugepro flush mount next to the 4X4 selector but that space is already occupied by the "Parking Assist" and "Rear Window Defrost". The only flat area on an Excursion...and its occupied.
This is how I ended up mounting the Hydra selector. If you don't have gauges then this is not much of use to you. I painted the mount to match the interior color/pillar mount color.
My gages are overhead and (650) lower dash so, for now, my short term is plan to use the Velcro and mount it in the "standard" place (under instrument cluster to the left of the steering column). I thought about the Gagepro mount on one of my lower gages but it would be hard to see and manipulate (plus I don't think the ribbon is long enough).
I'm not a fan of the exposed ribbon but I don't need to add another project to this summer's truck saga to find (and purchase) a mounting solution for my Hydra switch. I love my driver's side pillar grab handle and will not part with it (hence the overhead pod vice pillar pod) otherwise I would copy Sous' setup. For the long term I'm considering of getting the gage pod selector (https://store.gopowerhungry.com/en/h...-selector.html#) and the single column cover (Autometer Single Steering Column Pod - Auto). I'm left-handed so it's like it was made just for me. I was also thinking of the cluster bezel (Autometer Dual Gauge Cluster Bezel) but I don't know what I'd put in the second opening.
I didn't want the bright red LED lights shining in my eyes at night, so mine is mounted on the dash directly behind the turn signal to the left of the column. It's completely invisible to me unless I look for it. It's the perfect spot IMO.

The lights/numbers on my hydra are green and after dimming them a bit they match the gauges quite well. I could see how bright red lights would cause a problem though.
