53-55 Dash Extensions

I want to put a dash extension in my truck. Please post pics of yours and where you purchased it or did you custom make it.

Mid-Fifty sells several different ones and they bolt to the lower dash but they don't go straight down. They are angled forward. Not sure how it would look.

I also want the glove box door to open if possible.

Thanks in advance

I have mine made at Direct Sheetmetal to my specs. What I like to do is have the extension set back a few inches from the face of the dash, that makes the look better and it gets the panel out of the way of the steering column. I use 16 ga steel with no angle. Here is a pic of a friend's truck...the extension here is flush which brings it out into the leg area, that is why I prefer a recessed panel.

dash extension

mine, made it myself. Should have made more than 3 of the small A/C vents, kinda restricts the air in the Sacramento heat

oh yeah and since I used wood and inset it a little, it just took a little extra sanding (basically invisible) under the glovebox to let it open properly

Thank you for the lead Charlie. And I better check my leg clearance first. I am 6'4 and using the stock seat.

I made my own for both my trucks, this one is set back 1/2" under the dash

I used piano hinge and made new stays with a slightly different arc to them.

Those look good. That's what I'm looking for. Are they straight from the lh to the rh? Or do they follow the curvature of the dash on the ends?

I think you can see where the curve starts on this picture and with a curved bend on the ends..

That's ok. I see the curve on the primer and green pic now that I looked closer.

Mine are like John's (but not as nice I think) and you can see the bend in the end. I made two because of the console, and moved it back on the dash, so the glovebox still opens.
