The other day, I happened to think about a time when I had to have my Blazer towed in because it threw the serpentine belt ( something was broken, I forget what).
It was late Friday night when it happened, so we had to come back the next day to pick it up. This was at one of the filling station/repair shop places that were often quite useful.
Anyway, I had to wait a fair amount of time for the truck, and I was just sitting idly in the front of the store. A lot of people came in and bought cigarette lighters -- often more than one. The clerk would ask what color and they'd say something like 2 reds and a blue -- I think those were the only choices.
Twenty ( or so ) years later, it finally dawned on me what was going on. Some of those sales would still be illegal in every state today, I believe.

When I was a kid, nearly 50 years ago, there was a pawn shop that sold pot. You came in and asked for "guitar strings". So did the cluck hand over a lighter, or a small bag?
Just think, many of those dumb basiteds is well on their way to lung cancer by now.1
I get it now.. It didn't occur to me that a business would sell illegal drugs. That was the "password". Wouldn't make a very good cop (or a crook) I guess.
