Hi I have a 78 f250 and the passenger door started to rattle. It is like it is not fully closed/latched. It doesn't change no matter how hard I slam it. I lubed up the latch mechanism still no change.
Any ideas?
The door striker has a hard plastic sleeve that commonly breaks off and causes a shut door to rattle. Look at yours and if its missing the sleeve, probably the culprit.
You can buy the striker assembly new, I believe, but may have to modify it.
My truck is not for show so I cut a short piece of 1/2" pex tubing and pressed it onto the striker post to quiet my rattling doors. Works like a charm. Others have used layers of tape or rubber hose. Good Luck
I had this problem years ago. Took the door panel off and found that the bottom bolt that attached the window channel to the door had fallen out. Replaced it and no more rattle.
Get the new Striker stud with the plastic on it and then also check your door seals believe it or not after 40 years if they have never been changed these things get squashed and give riddle almost. You may want to change him two new ones that's what alleviate the rattling my doors I also don't use the ones that are spongy like they're called for instead I use the later model from 80 on up into the late 90s you have to modify them only slightly by flattening out the edges on a portion that goes underneath the trim piece that holds down the carpet and trim them in link because they are longer but they have the metal inserts inside that actually grabbed on to the door flange and seal very well in fact you have to slam and pretty good to get them to start to hold once on there at these things do not allow your door to Rattle whatsoever. Hope that helps
