New Build 1953 F100/1991 5.0 HO/AOD question.

Hello,
I was hoping for some help on my build.
I am putting the engine together but need to know if the fox body two sump pan is the best pan for the 5.0 to fit in my 1953 F100? ( motor mounts and trans mount will be purchased from Mid Fifties.) I want to keep current factory cross bracing. I have the 3 inch drop axle and 2 inch drop springs. I plan to use the Toyota conversion for steering box. I want to try and keep it simple since there is probably a lot of these out there.

I had a Mustang pan on mine, and it fit fine. I went to a later model motor from an Explorer, and used the pan that came on the motor. I also have the 3 inch drop axle with every other leaf removed along with reversed-eye main leafs. Truck sits pretty low, and I had no clearance issues with either pan.

Here's a few pictures of mine 1949 M47, 1986 mustang 5.o with AOD. I think alot depends where you end up mounting your motor. I tried to put mine as low as possible and as far back as I could. I have stock I beam though that shouldn't make a difference.... and full leaf pack's. Looks like tons of room to me that 7" is from the bottom of front sump to axle.

Waytorod, thanks for the photos, plenty of room. I am hoping to hear some best practices so I can get it right the first time. Did you hook up the Aod tranny? Any lessons?

Waytorod, what engine mounts were used? I have seen a variety installed and then another was brackets that bolt individually on each frame rail.

I'm running a 5.0 / AOD combo with a straight axle. 3'' dropped posies aprings, with a tubular engine mount. It's got the same oil pan you have. there are absolutely no clearance issues. Good luck.

These are the ones I used, you can get them from speedway.... picture is for a Chevy but you get the idea. I don't think they are as strong as the crossmember and mount unit but they fit good. They are for 53 Ford Slightly wider frame so allowed me to shift the motor to the Right about 3/4 of an inch to clear steering box. I'm not running yet so no idea on reliability.
