I have a 2015 SRW f350 and has been fairly problem free. Last Thursday I was driving home and I received the reduced engine power and code popped up P0088, high pressure fuel rail issue.. anyway, I just popped over 36k miles, the truck is at 36,278 miles, so I take it in thinking they will goodwill it.
I get a call saying they can't clear the code and the TCM AND PCM can't communicate and they have to reach out to Ford engineering to help. They find the PCM is corrupt, they call me twice and ask if the truck has been tuned, the answer is no, but then pin me against the wall saying I am the second owner, which I am, and that it could have been tuned prior. I tell them to prove it, you can see if there has been a tune. The truck truly has never been tuned, it was sold at Ford factory auction as a employee vehicle.
Now they are trying to tell me the corruption was due to the tune, which it never had. But they won't goodwill it and say I am responsible for all the diag and work done, I say no. I say this should be a warranty issue and should be covered, they say it was tuned, I told them to prove it.
What do I do here, what ammo can I use to get these dudes to cover the work..
I would think that if a tune was causing the problem, it would've showed up awhile ago. If it had 5,000 miles on it when you got it, and you had 30,000 problem free miles, my guess is that something mechanical hsppened versus non-mechanical tune software.
okay if there was tuning on this vehicle before you bought it, how are YOU supposed to know that this vehicle had tuning on it? Does the dealer think your psychic and can see into the past to see there was tuning on it. If you bought this and there was no mention of tuning in the auction declaration YOU have no way of knowing what the previous owner did to it tuning or not.
I have a really hard time believing someone would put tuning on it for 5k miles and then remove it? Is it possible...sure...likely not in my mind. If the dealer is so sure there was tuning tell them to prove it. I would be on the blower to Ford Customer service and tell them there has been no tuning on this vehicle since you bought it and that YOU have no idea what the previous owner did or didnt do to the truck.
I would be asking precisely how the DEALER is able to tell a tuned vehicle from a non tuned vehicle. I'd like to know how they determined that conclusion, what evidence did they find that says the truck was tuned, have them show you the proof
Just an added thought to what pocketlint said above.....I guess any dealer could use that as an excuse for any issue that they don't want to cover, so the onus should be on them to prove it.
Apperciate your help...all is good. Warranty covered snd they have no way of telling, doesn't matter the truck was never tuned..we will see if it fixes my problem
