When I log onto FTE, I know I'm going to a place where I can participate in good converstation, give and recieve good information, and share an interest with others that have the same interest.
I also know that I'm not going to have to sift through a bunch of flame wars, disrespctful attitudes, or posts where every other word is a curse word. I find the atmoshpere here friendly, helpful and interesting. If a user doesn't find it to his or her liking, then perhaps that user is on the wrong kind of board.
A forum this large cannot not exist in anarchy, somebody has to determine what the rules should be, what lines should not be crossed, and what constitutes an inappropriate post. Someone also has to interpret and enforce those rules. If it were any other way then the forums would be in chaos, filled with disrespect and negative attitudes, and would cease to be an enjoyable place to visit.
There is always going to be somone who disagree's with a rule, or the interpretation of a rule. There is always going to be a person who thinks the world is out to get him/her personnaly. There will always be someone who feels he or she is right and everyone else is wrong.
And on occasion there will be someone who has indeed been done an injustice, by accident or otherwise. That's life, get over it.
Please understand, I'm not "attacking" you personally alanscott, I don't know your motivation for posting this poll. This is subject that has come up before, and this is just my take on it.

Well, I voted no. The only way that we can keep this place pleasant is with some semblance of control. Also, remember, this is the webmaster's site, not a public site. Do you want people throwing trash all over your front lawn, and tearing up your property? You would stop that kind of abuse, wouldn't you? Well, this is his front lawn, and he has every right to stop whatever he doesn't like.
Moderation is good. It gives order to the website. I really hate it when people either advertise in the wrong forum, or put XXX in the General conversation forum (like what happened the other day). Although, I admit, there are some things that puzzle me. I have seen posts deleted by moderators, and I didn't see anything wrong about the post. I have even checked the guidelines to see, but could never figure it out. So, I think some things are over-reactions, but in general, I like the clean website...
Hey guys! For most of us that respond with a No, it's because we're older, more mature and can think and respond in a way as not to be moderated at all. There are some that need it less, and there's some that need it more. I do try to respond to some posts, like I'm talking to one of my own children. The response may be a bit longer, but I know it'll be moderated and passed by. I would expect nothing less than that. Some of you guys feel like you're being baby-sat, but with 125k members, there are the few....
I cannot say that I would want to be a moderator. I can handle the critisism from the members as well as other moderators. I know there are posts that I would delete in a second, just for relevency, or stupidity. I refuse to respond to a post with missing letters from words, and words misspelled, and that give a single description of a problem and I have to ask more questions, for more information. Oh well, that's all I've got for now..
Talk with you fine gentlemen later....
I used to hang out on the Harmony-Central Guitar Forum. The HC Guitar forum is completely lawless - the forum is supposed to be for guitar discussion, yet you have stupid posts like "Should I get a new car?" and "What's your favorite fast food restaraunt?".
Even the moderators on there participate in the stupidity - it's a sad state of affairs.
FTE rocks, and I don't see how it could be over-moderated. Most forums (at least in my forum), you never hear from the moderator unless somebody does something stupid, which usually results in a small amount of message editing and a polite email from the mod (once again, at least in my case. I like to think I'm not too intrusive...)
As a new user I had to have a couple things pointed out to me by the moderatoer, which I appreciated. I think some threads should be ended sooner, like when you get opinionated people argueing, or especially when you get a person with some preconcieved notion about something who becomes impolite in defense of his halfbaked notion.
I said no, since I've been here a while, pretty much say what I want, and have never been edited or anything.
I just try to keep in mind that I have to consider the audience I'm speaking to. Ya wouldn't whip out a Playboy and start blurting out four letter words in the middle of a church service, would ya?
Same thing. It has it's place. (And this is coming from me, raised by a truck driver, every other word out of my mouth in on George Carlin's "List"... )
The atmosphere here is pleasant with an attitude of open discussions welcome as long and they remain clean.
My hat is off to Ken and the other moderators here for being able to keep a balance between moderation when needed and letting us run a while. The posts on religion and politics are good examples. As long as no one starts getting personal or childish we're given a pretty free reign to run here.
Although i'm a Mod i say no! I know of several other boards that are horrible with no control. FTE has always been a great well run and pleasant site to come to.
I say no. The moderators here are doing a great job and they are enforcing the guidlines that were set when the site came online. Without them, we might as well just meet in a chat room and say what ever we please and offend each other all night long. It's a great site with great people. As far as I know, when the moderators need to correct something, as a thread getting out of hand and such, they're doing it with great respect to the site and the people posting and viewing the thread. Keep up the great work mods!
Well alan, if you truly think that, take a look at the Ford Vs. The Competition forum. Carlene has admitted to being quite lax in there. The boss had to step in and make a decision, even though I don't agree that it should be closed, he did the most effective thing.
For the most part Dennis and Eric step in and do most of the real moderating.
I am a member of other Ford truck sites, and I can honestly say that this site seems to be moderated the best out of all of them. I have been reminded in the past about a post I typed going a little overboard, but it was done tactfully and edited right away. I like the more mature nature of this site.
