BlueTooth Radio

This may not be the correct place to start this blog but, here goes.

Has anyone installed a bluetooth vintage/classic upgraded radio? What are your opinions

I've been wondering the same thing. My guess is they lack in sound quality for the price. Your paying for the vintage design.

I agree, my jaw just about hit the floor when I saw how much they were selling for.

Total rip cause they know you need BT. Once they rig up the built in HD tuner I'll think about it.

Yeah, I've been thinking about putting one in. I haven't bothered to check prices because I'm about 18 mos. by my estimation away from being ready to install a radio. It had one of the retro faces with a cassette player. Only AM and the cassette worked. I'm debating on having it tested or just buy one of the Walmart or BJ's options that I can fabricate a face plate for so I don't ruin the original.

Now I need to go look at the prices. I would love to have BT. I find it frustrating that everything in tech is moving so fast but this area of tech is crawling and so expensive for the application. Really is a function of lo/no demand, so they screw you.

How hard is it to make a radio design with BT that the technology can be used in multiple applications. Only the physical outside design would be different.

Just like twenty years ago I assume most radios were basically the same with differences in quality and power and option differing. So I would guess today, that radios with the BT option are probably much the same that are being put into production vehicles of various makes. The guts are much the same not counting options so the big difference is the physical design. Anyone follow me? So there should be no rationale or justification for exorbitant prices. The only explanation is they have a limited consumer base willing to pay.

I think that is why. I think just about, if not all, Manufacturers employ a version of Bluetooth now a days. Ford has had their version out for Years now. "Sync" by Microsoft. So for the most part, the newer vehicles have it already. Just the older vehicles don't. So this limits the customer base.
Note. I have heard of using a Volvo dash kit to install a Din radio in our Bumps. Upside down. I think it is here (out of Hio's Compilation sticky)
FTE Thread: Bumpside DIN Chassis Sound System Installation

I believe you use the 2nd one down out of the above kit.

If you're okay with installing a DIN chassis, consider getting a digital media player/head unit like a Blaupunkt "Columbus" 100BT. It has FM radio, an AUX port, SD card slot, USB port, and Bluetooth. Only like $32 from Amazon.

Depending on what you want you can send off your old AM or AM/FM radio and have a internal Bluetooth installed. In another car I have which has a vintage 80's Becker I sent it off and had a Bluetooth installed. I never use AM any more so had them use that switch button to turn activate the BT. Works fantastic, auto link as soon as you start the car. There are quite a few company's that will do the same thing. Total cost for mine was $100 plus $25 shipping.

i have a custom auto sound in my 66 Mustang , You are paying for the fit into dash with out cutting . the stereo sound is low quality .
IMHO mount a nice quality Name brand stereo under the dash or in glove box or just say F it and cut the Dash like I did .

I haven't had a radio in my bump sense 1997. I don't miss it because I love the sound my truck makes. The only time the radio get turned on in my 06 diesel is when one of the kids turn it on. Then a commercial comes on and I turn it off again.

You can do it several ways.
Out of Sight Audio - Bluetooth Audio Stereo Radio for Vintage Classic Cars

Electro-Tech Service 1

Joe's Classic Car Radio- Home

Just do a search for adding bluetooth to vintage automobile radio and you will find several company's that do it now. I only use mine for music, no phone calls.
