I haven't had a radio in my bump sense 1997. I don't miss it because I love the sound my truck makes. The only time the radio get turned on in my 06 diesel is when one of the kids turn it on. Then a commercial comes on and I turn it off again.
HA HA. It's funny how things and times change with age. I'm with you Chris. I've always had a "System" in my vehicles. Up until my current 2003 Harley F150 and my Bump. Starting with 6X9s and a head unit in my 1st car. A 1965 Triumph TR4. Eclipsing with my 79 Trans Am back in the day. It sounded better than most people's living rooms. 4" coaxials with aimed tweeters in the doors up high. The sheetmetal package tray removed and replaced with wood. Then two 6X9 Phase Linear tiaxials and two 10" Blaupunkt subs installed. Each pair had their own Coustic amp. And all through a Coustic XM3 crossover that was super adjustable.
Now I hardly ever listen to the radio while driving. Instead I listen to my exhaust system and the whine of my Supercharger.
Just do a search for adding bluetooth to vintage automobile radio and you will find several company's that do it now. I only use mine for music, no phone calls.
Thank you 3457-fl! This is very helpful information
If you're okay with installing a DIN chassis, consider getting a digital media player/head unit like a Blaupunkt "Columbus" 100BT. It has FM radio, an AUX port, SD card slot, USB port, and Bluetooth. Only like $32 from Amazon.
Way, way, way easy. It's really light and only half the depth of a cd-equipped head unit. It's lightweight cuz it has no motors to drive a cd player.
Wires are yellow to maintain the settings, red for power, and a ground. Blue for a power antenna, and the four pairs of speaker leads. It also has a pair of RCA outputs for a two- or four-channel amplifier. Low buck too!

My Ferrari has a Becker radio.. Beckers notoriously suck... I consider it an afterthought by Ferrari cuz who wants to listen to crap when the exhaust notes are comparable to a symphony playing Mozart?
Top down at 7,000 RPM and quick upshifts via the paddle shifter and you too will feel like Vettel or Raikkonen. Downshifting automatically blips the throttle so ya stay in the RPM range. OMG!

It should take you about 4 hours to get to Texas to take me for a ride.
I'll wait right here for you

HIO, you seem pretty knowledgeable about the subject of stereo/sound systems. Going with low to lower mid range in price, what would you recommend for speakers?
I'm going to put two small ones on the inside panel next to your head. ( Holes are already there unfortunately ) and two larger ones in the doors.
If you got a dremel and a good file with some patients to test fit a million times this is what you get. Flush mounted factory bezel with a detachable head until with blue tooth and phone call ability I went with two 6X9 Polk Item model number DXi691 best speaker I have ever had!! They sound crisp clean and you will think you have a sub woofer with how clean, smooth and hard the bass is. I highly recommend!! Plus they are Marine grade so it you mount them in the door like I have you don't have to worry if they get wet in the rain

Would you recommend different placement?
I'm not Hio but I'll give you my $.02. I'd go with MB Quart speakers.
I was thinking about trying one of the modulators that goes in-line with the antenna for internet radio with the stock stereo deck. I'm thinking, run a 1/8" stereo plug and USB port into the glovebox.
Anyone here tried one?
Just to throw it into the mix as it will most likely be the route I will go check out this link. It has AM/FM, Blu-tooth, satellite ready and you can wireless stream music from your device. Yes it is pricey, but it also still keeps that "look" without having to go into DIN mounts or modifying original radios. Just another option if you have not seen them. They also have other options for radios as well that are cheaper.
