Dashcam feedback, anyone?

My Sony FDR-X1000v action camera has got a DashCam mode in it, but it's a very expensive camera to leave installed on your windshield and too much of a PITB to take it off everytime I park.
I'd be willing to bet that GoPro has the same modes available..

Here is an alternative to a dashcam. I use a holder for my phone (Android Nexus 6P), and I found this neat little "shortcuts" for Google now. You just give it a keyword (like "Dashcam now!"), and it will fire up the camera in movie mode.
Since I always have my phone in the holder, and it's pointed more-or-less straight over the hood, I get a removable dashcam for free.
