new member just picked up a 56 F100. VIN seems not typical for 56: 4831010TK-32451
Anyone seen this before? It's a 14 digit Canadian truck VIN ..If you had bought a 1956 assembled in the US, the VIN would be completely different and contain 11 digits.
Welcome to FTE
4 = V8 engine; 83 = Pickup; 10 = 100 Series; 10 = 110" Wheelbase; T = 1956; K = Oakville Ontario Canada Assembly Plant; 32451 is the numerical sequence of assembly.
Ford and Merc trucks assembled and sold new in Canada (only) have unique VIN's thru 1965. 1966/68 Ford/Merc Canadian trucks use the same VIN as US trucks.
Tariffs that existed between the US & Canada were abolished in late 1967, so there were very few 1968 Merc's assembled.
thanks yes it says made in Oakville Ontario although the engine appears to be a 223 6 cyl so it must have been changed (maybe), and it is a stepside (uh...).
Beginning in 1957, when Stylesides were introduced, trucks like yours were called Flaresides.
A stepside is a Chevrolet.
1964/72 truck catalog decodes 1965 Canadian VIN's, where 4 refers to a V8 engine. I knew what all the rest of the VIN decoded to.
So...I guessed that 4 refers to a V8 for your truck. There are other members of this forum that will know for sure whether it is...or isn't a V8.
I cant seem to find a site to decode the Canadian vin id like to find out for sure if it should have a v8 or if the 223 is correct . any help is appreciated also where would you find the model year in the vin
Here's a thread with as much info as there is. Your serial number seems to be missing some letters. You'll need to scroll thru the whole thread to get all the info: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...fo-thread.html
hi matthew are you sure the 4 designates a v8 cause there are no v8 emblems or any other signs of v8 could it be possible the vin plate is off another truck it is put on with phillips screws is this correct, on the vin plate it says paint code 08 I cant seem to find this code to know if its correct ,my truck is red in color and seems totally original
thanks john this is a Windsor plant vin plate ,a little different but same info, this says vin plate should be in glove box mine is on cab drivers door, this still has no engine info on the vin plate and my paint code says 08 which isn't listed I'm still confused this truck seems totally original has a 223 6 cyl and red in color trans type correct 3 spd ,trim type correct aga red

And yes the 4 designates Ford V8.
In the Collision Catalogue for 1956 Colour 08 is listed as Pinewood Green M25J-555-SE . But is listed as for U.S.A vehicles Does not mean to say it was not special ordered with that colour. Also there is the possibility that the cab has been swapped some time in the past. You may have to find the serial stamped on the Frame to see if they match.
Then we can go from there. I do not want to make any assumptions about how it got an I6 till we can verify that. Also see if you can pull some of the build dates off some of the parts on the tuck.
ok the truck had some green parts in the back light green like turguoise a door for the broken window parts maybe they put that green truck vin plate on the red 56 .were the vin plates held on with phillips screws from factory in 56
