It should be on the top of the right frame rail in front of or in the vicinity of the front cab mount. If I'm off in the location I'm sure others will be able to more accurately describe it's location.
If you happen to find it let us know what it is and we can decipher it for you and at least you will know exactly what you have. I do not think any one reproduces Canadian Serial plates.
The serial numbers are in two places on the left frame if it is from the Oakville plant. Both mine had the numbers stamps on top of frame rail above the steering box and under the cab between the two running board brackets. Both of mine also came from the Oakville plant..
56 Panel, Which book did you get the serial number breakdown. I don't have the colour codes in my 1956 FoMoCo of Canada Parts Catalogue for 1956 Ford and Mercury Trucks. It's the book with the red cover.
Any help with my decode? Truck is a 50 f47 and the vin plate in the glove box was painted over on the last restoration. However I got this off the frame but cant seem to decipher it any help would be greatly appreciated.
Haywoodya69, I don't have my books with me. Glove box doesn't have the s/n info on it only FoMoCo of Canada info and G.V.W. rating. You need to use the s/n on the top of the firewall or the stamped one on the top left frame rail near the steering box.
According to the s/n you provided, this is a s/n for a 1951 Mercury 1/2 ton with a standard cab.
ok so I found the vin stamped on the left frame rail by the steering box ,it matches the vin # on the vin plate so looks like my truck should have a v8 but the paint code (08) is still up in the air because this truck is definitely red everywhere and original paint so I have to assume 08 paint code should be some form of red (not metallic) am I correct thanks again great truck site now finish learning how to move pictures from my phone to this site

Are you sure it is an 08 and not 09 ? 09 would be Carousel Red.

Tienmac-Would you be able to give me a full breakdown of the vin and if you have a book I would like to purchase it if I can get the title of it if possible, thanks in advance. s/n-MDA83AH51-17745K
I dug out the RM (Rinshed Mason) Canadian paint Catalogue to double check that there was not an error in the Ford Collision Catalogue and it also does not list an 08 Paint code for Ford Canada in 1956.
