Gas gauge help

ok as usual I feel like an idiot, it seems my 47 has been converted to twelve volt. I have NO gas gauge! There is about three inches of wire with what looks like a resistor hanging from the tanks sending unit where I guess it was cut....Do I just re run a wire from the send unit to the gas gauge and bobs your uncle? Or do I need two wires with a ground some where? Do I go to the battery then the gauge?
HELP? I need the easy simple version.
thanks guys😊

There is only one wire from the sender to the gauge. There is also a ground wire attached at the sender and the seat foundation. At the back of the fuel gauge there are two other wires connected opposite of the sender wire. One is a power wire that comes off of the ignition switch and another wire that feeds the oil pressure and temperature gauges. If running twelve volts you will need the resistor to lower the voltage to the fuel gauge in order to get an accurate reading. The resistor should be in series with the sender to gauge wire. Hope this makes sense.

Well, you could put a new sending unit in the tank and then rerun the wire to the gauge, or you could just run a wire and see what happens. Chances are good that your current sending unit has seen better days.
