Temp gauge not working? How do I check?
I just took my '69 truck and new '69 Tear Drop slide in camper on its maiden voyage and noticed that my temp gauge stayed on "C" the whole time.
It was in the 90's and I was hauling this 1200 lbs camper up and down hills and the needle didn't change.
Is there a good way to check my temp gauge or should I just replace the sending unit to start?

Unhook the wire from the sending unit. Find something to stick in the end of it to ground. With ignition on the gauge should peg out hot. If not your problem is in your gauge or wire running to it. If it does the problem is the sending unit. Let's say it didn't. The next move is to disconnect the wire from the gauge. Now with a ohm meter connect 1 lead to the sending unit side & 1 to the gauge side of the wire (not the gauge, the wire that connects to it). Did the ohm meter read 0? If so the wire is good. If not the wire is bad. Wire good the problem is with the gauge. Wire bad is obvious.
