I see that the trim part for chrome is VFL3Z-5420049-M Does anyone know the part number for the black trim if you want to get rid of the chrome? Specifically for a crew cab?
^ I think you just remove it. It is added to black trim, but there is no black equivalent if I'm correct. You could plasti-dip it black, or have it powder-coated I guess.

Interesting. I have seen multiple people mention buying the "XLT trim" to change a Platinum to no longer have chrome. I never looked close enough to see if it was just removable. Seems too easy.

I am pretty sure I have seen this multiple times...and for certain, I recall that carbon8 has a list of his mods in this thread and the list includes "Retro Customz XLT Window Trim-Installed" I am not sure if that is a custom thing that Retro offers or if that just means he bought it from them. Hopefully he will pop along here and give us some insight.
I did some digging on the ford parts drawings for an XLT and for a Platinum and the only thing I can come up with is "belt molding". The drawings do not even appear different for the different trim levels. For example, it appears that the following parts are the belt molding for the "black" and "bright" versions ....so I am guessing this is just the black rubber weatherstripping and there is a different part number for the part that snaps on for an XLT or chrome package.
Black
I have a platinum and ordered non chrome ones through Blue Springs Ford website. They have the chrome ones available as well. When I get them and swap them out I will sell my chrome ones if they are in good shape.

My KR came with the chrome door trim even though I purposely bought one without the chrome package. I wish I could trade out for the black.
Since the trim seems to be such a small strip, why do you try out some gloss black "shadowline" trim vinyl to wrap the chrome? I bought some to do the chrome strip on the factory power running boards, but I just haven't found the time to do it yet.

I could, just haven't messed with it, I'd like to do it on the drop steps too like you mentioned.
I wrapped my power running board edge and tailgate edge strips. The window trim chrome is too hard to wrap to look good. You see it every time you get in or out of the vehicle so to me it has to be perfect or no deal. That’s why I bought the black lariat replacements. They will be here Saturday. I’ll post an update once they are swapped out

Can you post up or PM part numbers please? I really would like to do this to mine as well.
