Help! 1/2ton same front axle as 1
K please help! I'm slowly cleaning up the small and getting ready for the big.
iv got a 49 1ton and want to do disks and a rack for steering. I'm in Canada and called speedway in the states as they have a front disk kit that tics all the boxes (I realize I will go from an 8 stud to 5 on the wheels)
ive heard that 1/2 ton stuff willl work on 1's.
i was hoping the speedway "Tech" would tell me (with some: "But you might have to do this.."type advice. But it seemed he was only a text book salesman.
"Well sir the catalogue says it's for a half ton, so maybe you'd be better off selling your 1 ton and looking for a half ton....
WHAT T FK!!?
So please can a real hands on experience guy tell me if 1/2 stuff will work?
If not where can I get a disk kit for my 1 ton and also recommend a rack and pin kit.
i don't want to two-bit piece at a time change ball joints and kings costing a ton when I might be more efficient to find and use a whole kit.
Thank you.
You guys rock and have already helped a ton...best site ever.

True. The F-3 was considered a heavy duty 3/4 T. If he had that the disc brake kit would work fine. What F series does the title show? Is it F-3 or F-4?

Hmmm....well it says 1Ton on the hood side in chrome, but I haven't checked the title yet....would it be in the vin on the firewall, (just incase it was wrong on the title?)
Also do you know if my 47 would have come 6 or twelve volt (I'd love to have a gas gauge that was cut by someone)

As far as I know there are no disc kits available specifically for the one ton. That isn't to say that something could be made to work with some modifications. From my experience the one ton trucks have decent drum brakes. I personally wouldn't concern myself with changing to discs, but would go to a dual feed master cylinder for a bit more safety.
Your truck would have come from the factory with six volt positive ground, but can be easily converted to twelve volt negative ground.
Fuel gauges are available with some searching. I have not seen a bad gauge, but have seen plenty of bad senders. Universal type senders are available that can be made to work with the factory gauge.

1948/52 F1/F2/F3:
7RC-3010-B .. Front Axle
A8C-3105-A .. Right Spindle / A8C-3106-A .. Left Spindle
----------------------------------------------------------------
F4/F5/F6 use a different front axle (7RTH-3010-A) and the spindle is the same right & left (8T-3105).
1948/52 F1: 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle // F2/F3: 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle // F4/F5/F6: 5 lug wheels on an 8.00" bolt circle.
1953/97 F250; 1967/97 F350; 1969/74 E300; 1975/2014 E250/350: 8 lug wheels on a 6.50" bolt circle.
1953/66 F350: 6 lug wheels on a 7.25" bolt circle.
Note: 1956 was the first year for 12V. All 1955 and earlier FoMoCo vehicles were 6V

Before I'd ask a single question, I'd verify what year the truck is. 1942/47's (see pic in post #14) with their "jail bar" grilles look completely different than 1948/52's.
