I am looking for a Disk Brake kit for my 51 F3. I already have a 8.8 out of an Explorer and now would like to find a kit to convert the front, any suggestions? I appreciate your help.
Since you have the five lug rear end out of the Ranger you can use a conversion kit for a F-1. F-1 through F-3s have the same front axle and spindles. I don't have any idea where you can buy the kit but I know there are quite a few out there. I'm sure someone will be along soon with more information.
The disc brake conversion kit for the original straight axle is available from most any period truck parts vendor, like Classic Haulers. You can get them in your choice of the 3 most popular bolt patterns. Since you already have the 5 on 4.5 on the rear, I'd suggest getting the matching setup for the front.
Yep, the kit won't say it fits F2 and F3 because those trucks had an 8-lug pattern but any kit for an F1 will fit your F3. Check with Speedway Motors too.
Thanks guy, Im at the Back to the 50's car show in the Twin Cities right now and its helping remind me just how bad I need to get the truck on the road and drive it here next year! I appreciate the help.
I used the stock spindles and a kit from Speedway.
Decided to tackle the Disc brake conversion on the F3 front.
A Speedway kit that apart from the quality of the nuts and bolts is a cheap and simple solution and fits all Ford pick ups from 48-52.
First the bearing adapter is put on then it's a regular caliper and rotor install.

Are the bearing adapters pressed on dry ? What kind of calipers ,ford, chevy ect ? Are they included in the kit ?
Englishbob I too purchased a disc brake conversion for my 51 f1. I dont mean to be anul but it looks like you have the caliper bracket on upside down. All the diagrams i have found show the 2 holes in the bracket on the upper 2 holes of the spindle. Just my 2c worth
