I'm going to be ordering an XLT within the next week and am wondering whether I should add the $60 Advanced Security Pack option? Can anybody provide any insight as to what this option is/does? I'm not worried about spending $60 but I don't want it to be something that turns out to be a pain in the a** more than anything. I like things simple and don't want to have to deal with future failures but if there is a significant benefit then I may add the option. Thanks in advance.
Sure. The Advanced Security Pack basically is an upgraded alarm. It includes a tilt angle sensor and ultrasonic interior protection sensors, in addition to the standard perimeter door sensors. The biggest difference you'll notice is in the overhead console, near the sunglasses bin, you'll see 4 microphone-looking things. These are the ultrasonic interior sensors.
I think it is worth the trouble (standard on Lariat + trucks). The only issues I've had is unloading a tractor off my construction trailer. I locked the truck, which arms the alarm. Then I unloaded the tractor. When backing off the trailer, the weight of the tractor causes the back of the truck to move up and down, which triggered the alarm. No big deal.
You also have the option in the message center every time you shut the truck off to arm all sensors or just the door sensors (handy if you plan on leaving the windows down, etc.
Also, if you want to lock the truck with someone in it (say your wife wants to snooze while you look at fishing gear ) have her lock to doors from the inside AFTER all the doors or shut, or the alarm will activate with any movement inside the cab - and that doesn't seem to be bypassed with the dash panel selection.
