My predicament

A couple weeks a ago after filling up, tried to check the overhead lie-o-meter to see how much it said I had till empty. Upon pushing the "mode" button, the computer chip on top of it somehow shifted out of place. I tried taking the entire console down to get to it, but I seem to be missing something. (I know it can be done because how else would the dvd systems be installed?) Does anyone know how to take down the entire overhead console? Instructions or even a schematics map would be helpful. Thanks.

Funny that this came up as I am wanting to get behind the overhead in my truck to run some permanent Valentine 1 wiring. (More on that in a sec.)

As I understand it....the console is retained by one screw in the forward pocket (sunglasses holder) and then is pulled down. The guy that installed my alarm/remote start stated that it was one screw and then a matter of sliding the console. Hope that helps...and if you find otherwise, please post.

Not to hi-jack this thread...but in a related issue. V1 detectors use a telephone cord as a power cord. They offer a "hard-wire" kit so that you don't have to use the cigarette lighter. I have purchased (but not yet arrived) a phone handset retractable cord that is mounted to the phone, and is 6' long. When done, you can retract it like a trouble light reel. (Most of these modem-phone cord reels must be extended from both ends.) Anyhow, my thinking is to install this rectractable cord in the area where a garage door opener would go, and when I need the detector...just open that door and pull the cord out. When done...it retracts away. (My door opener is installed on my alarm's AUX channel.) Ain;t I clever?

I'll give that a try and post with the results. Thanks!

Well, it worked just like you said it would. All I need now is a very small "torx" screwdriver and I can fix my problem. Thanks, I really appreciate your help!

Matt,
Before you give up or freak out! -- compare the ends of the cord (both ends actually). You may see a difference in how they are terminated. Valentine is likely using a proprietary cord that doesn't have the same connections. It's sometimes the case that phone cords don't work from one system to the other.
Look to see if , for instance, the yellow is, say, all the way to the left with the cord viewed from the top. If there's a difference -- you'll see what I mean immediately. If just changing the termination is the solution, you can buy the tools to crimp on a new connector the way Valentine wants it.

Good luck!!
