Ok, long story short, 99.4 cclb 4x4 zf6 ran rough on way home from work the day we left to drive non-stop to California for vacation in the minvan, died a couple times in the driveway. While on vaca i ordered a Motorcraft cps cause it's cheaper than the icp/ipr and a spare in the glove box couldn't hurt if it isn't the problem.

Chafed wires around the 42 pin connector? loose connections at the UVCH and 42 pin connector?
Recently pulled my 42-pin connector at the driver's valve cover to do injector work. There's a shiny spot where the wire bundle rubbed the paint off of the valve cover. Looking at the bundle several wire insulations were noticeably worn so I re-wrapped that section in electrical and duct tape to prevent further 'erosion'. You won't notice it unless you pull the connector and look under the bundle. Worth a look and it's free.
