PARTS

My father-n-law and I are starting a new project truck that he was given after his father passed away back in May. It is a 1948 F4. We are looking for some parts and having a hard time finding them. We are needing a driver (LH) door and a passenger (RH) front fender. If anyone knows where i could find them that would be great.

Welcome. Sounds like a great project. Watching Craigs List is usually a good starting point for a parts search. The doors for the 48-52 F1 through F6 models were all the same, which might help your efforts. Including your location in the 'CP Profile' section would allow others to konw where in the world you call home.

Oh, pics please.

Welcome to the forum. Good to learn of another F4 being saved. The F4 is a good size truck, big enough, not too small, just right.
The parts you mention should be readily available.
We need pictures.

My welcome too. I see you are in KY, but as said it'd be helpful for you to add your location to your postings. I have some extra doors up here in the Springfield area if nothing closer is found. Fenders might be harder to find, especially in good shape.

As you gain knowledge about your truck I'd suggest you do some Google searches for information about the wheels. The F-4s could have been fitted with either 18" or 20" wheels. Virtually all would have had outer rims known by their Firestone RH-5° trade name, today known as "widow makers". Finding service for them could be difficult, and most owners today replace them with either safer two part wheels or tubeless one piece wheels. If you have additional questions we can give answers. Stu

Thanks guys. I will try and snap some pictures when i get time from work.

I think he plans are to put a newer running gear in it, cause he wants to run semi wheels on it. He is a farmer so he said he wants to paint it new holland yellow.

he got 2 trucks from his dad and both are 48's. one is an F1 and the other is the F4. so he is trying to juggle between both trucks. The F1 does run and drive. It has the original Flathead v8 in it and it sounds sweet.

Welcome to the board. As mentioned above, the F-4 is a nice large truck to restore. They are a bit rare because they were too big for lighter loads and not heavy enough to haul heavy loads so not as many were bought. The good qualities of the F-4 for a restorer is they are lighter, don't have the double walled frame of the F-5 and 6 that tends to rust and bulge but you still have the cool factor of a dualie truck. I have one that has been in the mid project mode for some years, maybe some day I'll have it on the road again.

Just to help out a bit, the front fenders from F-2 to F-6 are the same so your pool of fenders are a lot larger than for the F-1. Still might be hard to find but easier than the F-1s. Also, many of the larger trucks were farm trucks and were only used during planting and harvesting times and then put away during the harsh winter months.

Also, to add to Duane's post, doors and cabs are the same for all size models, F-1 through F-8.
