Hard Steering to Right
My 2000 F250 4 x 4 just started being almost impossible to steer to right when stopped. To the left it is ok. I was on a trip and when I got where I was going noticed the steering very hard. I checked the fluid level and it was almost empty. I filled the reservoir and let it sit 4 days. I am back on the road now and it is still doing it. Stopped to left is easy to right almost impossible. My brakes are good. I noticed a couple times when I had to slam on the brakes on the tirp the rear tires chirped. I don't tow anything with it, just a family vehicle with 408000 miles. The power steering pump was replaced a few years ago. Any ideas? Pump, gearbox, etc? I need to get this fixed as I have another trip coming up in a few days.

if you are having problems turning to the right and the fluid level was low I would be looking at a couple of different things. does it leak anywhere if it does you need to find the leak and fit it. next the gear box could be going out and that could be causing your problem of not being able to turn right. but look at everything. check all physical connections under the truck and have someone turn the steering wheel while you look at everything to make sure that nothing is loose or broken.
it is more than likely good or you would have noticed something broken or loose by sounds or felt it in the steering wheel but it never hurts to look

I know where the leak is. It is at the fitting on the back of pump. I have replace the swivel fitting, pressure hose and o'ring but it still leaks sometimes. Not all the time. Everything else has been replaced in the last few years (all with less than 100K miles on them). I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen before I start throwing expensive parts at it. I feel it's the gear box as it is the original.
