Hey guys, sorry if this topic has been discussed before. I tried a search first and didn't come up with much help. Probably because the search searches for throttle AND cable, seperately.
Anyway, I need some help with putting on my new throttle cable. Just looking for info on what's involved, I guess. I looked through my Haynes manual and found nothing.
Easy, find the accelerator cable and follow it to where it goes in to the firewall. There should be 2 small bolts holding it in, remove them. The end that hooks to the carburetor/throttle body should just pull off, also there will be a bracket that holds the cable it's bolted to the intake. I am not sure about 302s but my 300 the cable just pops out of the bracket. Next you will have to go inside the truck under the dash the cable hooks at the top of the accelerator pedal arm, just pull it back and up and it should pop right out. Just repeat the same process for installing the new cable.
Thanks for the help. I figured it was pretty easy, and it is. I got the old one off, and the new one on...but the new one is too long! The spring had to be compressed to fit in, and that let the pedal down too far on the floor. Guess I'll just take it back and see if I can find a right one somewhere else.
That happened to me a couple times. Partially my fault partially the incompetant idiot working behind the counter at autozone. I shoulda brought my cable in!
I just Replaced the throttle cable in my 80' Ford F150 but mine was a 351 modified but highly doubt there is any difference between them the only hard part is a plastic insert that is hooked into the accelerator pedal be careful cuz some of these pieces (depends on parts store) are very brittle. other than that nothing difficult about it. if you are wanting a little more "pedal" stack some washers on the mount.
