Hi all. I was at pullapart and saw they got a manual f250 in. I always wanted my truck to be a manual. This truck has. The 5.4 same as mine as well as being a 4x4. I believe it's an 03. Mine is a 01.
Can you tell me what all I need to do the swap? I know the trans and pedal assembly, flywheel as well as master cylinder and hose. And the shifter..
Will I have any problems on crossmember or driveshaft length? I figure the computer wouldn't be bothered by this.price is good.Am i nuts? Lol
Thanks a lot. Jim
The computer is going to be bothered by this swap. You'll get a flashing OD light and your check engine light will be on, too. Get the computer from the manual truck to solve these problems.
I can get that. Is that the one by abs unit or by park brake lever. Do you know if the transfer case to front axle is same as what the auto is? Same for rear driveshaft. The part truck is extended. Mine is standard cab so that one won't work
Wo not sure where to start. There are lots of things to get to do the swap. All the nuts and bolts peddle assembly bellhousing clutch master cylinder and line to slave cylinder all the wiring and connections computer which will need to be flashed to work with your motor This job may not be a DIY job. and will cost you more money than just for parts. Would be much easier to find a truck with a stick already in it. Cheaper also
Same motor. No worries there I knew I needed those things. What about the length of the transmissions that's a concern. Crossmember location ? I am very capable of doing this . If I wanted a car salesman I would have went to lots. Lol!!
This is a truck I've had for years. Put a dump bed on it know what the truck is. I'm giving the ole gal a major spruce up. Like to get 5 or 6 years more out of it which shouldn't be a problem . Only put 4 or 5 thousand a year on it.
You will need the drive shaft for sure. I have done this with a 59 chevy pu and took out a 4 speed auto and put a car transmission in it. Took some time and I didn't have any computer or special wiring to deal with. Adding the clutch peddle was a pain needed to have a DS made. Sounds like you have it handled Good luck.
You'll need the manual trans crossmember bushing, your factory crossmember will work. Tcase will slip right on also with no problems. Computer and wiring harness will be needed. Like above all clutch pedal comments including bolts nuts etc. Brackets for transmission to hold cable. Honestly if you have the donor truck with you its gonna be easy, remove one auto junk and swap in new manual trans.
ONLY thing that might be an issue is Ford did a wiring change is 2002 I believe so the plug ends might be different
Got it! Did great on price.i picked up the transfer case to. As well as clutch and flywheel. The clutch looks great. No burns on the flywheel..
I have to go back tomorrow to get the slave cylinder, steering column, petals harness and computer. Feel like things went great. I measured from the bell housing to center of transfer case and they are the same. Yay!
My drive shaft should work.
Only bad thing was I had to saw off shifter to get it out. I didn't have the right torox bit. Dang. Will weld it back together.
Well I picked up everything to do the swap. Trans and transfercase, clutch petal, master and slave assembly, shifter and boot, steering column, instrument display, computer, craossmember,(it was same as my auto),some wiring harness, trans cooling lines.Clutch assembly and flywheel..All for less than 400.
Should be everything.we will see in a couple weeks.
