I want to remove the driveshaft from the companion flange to grease the slip yoke assy. But the bolts look a little diff. has more than 8 sides on the bolt. waz up
Same bolts on a 94 explorer. Anyone have any hints as to breaking them lose? I've only soaked them in wd-40 up to now. I'm a little leary of going under the truck with a propane torch, and haven't found any pb blaster. I've read that some people have used brake fluid or ATF fluid.
I just pulled the drive shaft on mine.(96 bronco) You canuse a 12 point 12 mm socket with a 3 in extension on the rear, but will have to use a box end 12 point at the transfer case if you want to remove it. There isn't enough room at that end for a socket to fit. Mine were torqued pretty tight propably around 60-80 ft lbs.
I had to put about fives stars worth of torque on to get mine undone. But then I couldn't get it to stay together! Problem solved with a bunch more torque and some red loctite. I am dreading removing the thing again next week to swap the tranny.
