Another tow weight thread

Ok so I have a 17 f250. It it has high capacity towing package. I called Ford to get specs but he didn't really understand my? I beleive. I wanted to know why payload wasn't same as f350 since it has the f350 axle and 21k hitch. He said my payload is 2660 but my sticker says like 2200. I'm confused. I wish I'd got the 350 now but I was thinking I'd get a better ride and same capacity as a 350. I see the springs on rear are only thing different. I have a overload spring but not four leafs and a over load. Just 3 and overload. Any one have the truth? I've looked at all the Ford sheets none bring the tow package in play. I seen it raised the gcvw up 2200lbs but that's all I find

F250 has a GVW of 10,000. F350 has a GVW of 11,400 I think.

On paper, you can't raise the GVW past that 10k number, so your payload will always be less than the 350. So even if you had everything an F350 had, you're still limited to 10k.

You didn't need to start another thread with the exact same title and question. Your question was already answered in your last thread. The 250 is limited to a 10k GVWR to keep it as a class 2 truck. This is a paper limitation for commercial registration purposes in many states and private registration in a few others. What this means is that the truck is de-rated on it's sticker. The same has always been true of 250's. Yes, your main spring pack is the only difference. If your not concerned about the super rare legal liability event, then just add some StableLoads, airbags, or Timbrens, and forget it. Oh and you think you have it bad not doing your homework? Think of the guys a year ago with a 2016 F250 6.7 with the camper package. That truck is physically 100% identical to the SRW 350 6.7 that has an 11.5k GVWR. Yet its got a 10k GVWR, lower rear GAWR, and lower payload to match.

I didn't mean to. The thread I originally posted never posted so I did it again. It then told me inhD to wait for a admin to approve it. I did not see that the first time. I actually thought the approving admin would've caught that

You can get a 10k, 11.4k, or 11.5k sticker with an F350

People get the F350 with lower towing capacities for their wife or girlfriends...

Actually, it more to do with registration taxes, than actual capacity. And the sticker would show the lower towing numbers, regardless of what kind of capacity it has.

Or, in the case of our F350, 10.6K. IIRC, our truck's rear GAWR is limited by the 18" A/S tire specs.

Yep Karl4Cat, that guy was me but my truck (both of them) are 6.2's. I am hauling a truck camper and that makes the payload number a little more important than if towing a bumper pull. Could my F250 handle the camper I have? No doubt about it. But, being that I am in the trucking industry I was very concerned about safety and wanted my truck to be within the stickered ratings. I was willing to take the small financial hit to get into the F350 and am glad I did should that rare legal liability event occur, which I hope never does. Peace of mind was very important to me in my case.

On edit, I got ya... It's a non issue though in most states as RV's aren't checked for weight. There is also no safety concern if the trucks are physically identical. On liability, the lightning strike rare incident sure does concern a lot of people I guess.

Yeah, I don't understand it either. I know it's all a paper thing, but why pay up for the extra capacity, then have it derated?
