1st Tow 18,000lb 5th wheel, my impressions

Freaking awesome!!!! Felt like it wasn't even back there! Now i'm coming from a 05 F-350 Diesel Dually (super cab) with 4.30 gears (tow boss package I think it was called). I averaged 10.2 miles on the 200 mile trip. Unfortunately no big hills (LOL) that will come in our trip to upstate NY. Anyways night and day compared from my old truck. Tow Haul mode and Exhaust break was Fracking awesome stopping it. I also had so much power to spare! Hooked up I was a little nose high with the 5th wheel, not to bad going to leave it alone. Towing a 37 foot Excel 5th wheel.

Take care everyone,
Eddie

Oh no, I was hoping and betting that at 18k you would not make the statement...did not even know it was back there.

I agree, anytime you hook up 18K lbs behind even a F350 Dually, you know it's back there....or you are sleeping at the wheel. I've got a tow behind 34 1/2' Toy Hauler that scales at 12,400 lbs when travelling, and towing with a 2016 F350 CrewCab Dually 4x4.....trust me, I know it's back there.

I know when I have even my light 4000# moto hauler back there...or even 300# in the bed which stops any bounce. Maybe I just have a sensitive butt.

Well I absolutely new it was back there when hitting bumps. I guess I over stated my statement. It was a very pleasing towing experience. How about that? LOL

Take care,
Eddie

With a nice highway on cruise control , you can forget that it's back there
It's all about your setup , the weight doesn't matter.
My 16k 44 ft fifth wheel tows a lot better than my old 24ft one.

These are awesome towing machines...the dually's are so much more stable towing these heavy 5th wheel trailers. I was using my son in laws 2012 F-250 to pull our trailer before so going to the dually made a night and day difference. So glad I went with the 4.10 gearing. Passing up slower vehicles and pulling bridges is effortless.

I have a 1 ton SRW king ranch and just finished a 1200 mile vacation around the western half of Oregon over mountains and down the coast and I second his opinion that it tows amazingly well. Only pulling 13,000 and I knew it was back there but it was night and day compared to my 03 6.0 l f-250 I hauled it across the country with. I just thought I loved my truck until I took that little trip. Averaged 10.2 mpg which was about what I did with the old one. What did surprise me was the engine oil temps got to 244 on one long grade I was pulling. It never complained though. I'm sure it would have turned yellow or red if those numbers had been too high. I always heard anything over 230 was too high but it came right back down when we came off the grade. Bottom line is she performed like a dream.
