Another towing weight thread.
Another towing weight thread.
I have a 17 f250 and it has high capacity towing but I'm confused. I called Ford to get some answer I think the guy was confused also. Since it has a 350 axle in it, i thought it would have a higher payload. Ford guy said 2660. But sticker says like 2200. So whys the real number. The hitch is 21k like a 350 also. Spring pack is 3 leafs and a overload. A 350 has 4 and a over load. I was told I have almost the same as a 350. The Ford spec sheets never mention the high capacity tow. Does anyone know the true numbers? I wish I'd just got the 350 single wheel now. It inwas trying to get smoother ride and same towing. I couldn't verify specs cause the truck was at another dealer. Thanks for any info
The "official" real number is what's printed on your truck's LOAD INFORMATION label. The 2660 number is likely the maximum load value for a stripped truck (i.e., and XL with no options), and the 2200 number on the sticker likely reflects the reality of subtracting the weight of the options from the maximum.
The F250 is officially limited to a maximum 10K GVWR, regardless of configuration. The HD Tow Pkg delivers an F250's maximum GCWR which allows it to tow a heavier travel trailer (usually attached to the trailer hitch; see 2017 RV and Trailer Towing Guide pages 20 and 21), but the HDTP doesn't increase the F250's GVWR or the load carrying capacity, which, officially, could be an issue with the pin weight of a heavy 5th wheel trailer.

I went through the same thing and decided to trade my f250 with high capacity towing package with payload of 2207 for a f350 with payload of 3555, so although I lost a little bit on trade, I never have to worry about payload. Lesson learned.
Payload is what always gets you in towing with the F250. I doubt you'd be able to find a max weight trailer that didnt go over the payload first, maybe a boat with 4 outboards hanging off the back.
My F250 doesnt have the HD tow, and my payload is 2550. I only need to tow an 11K lb toy hauler though so that was perfect for me.

I screwed up. I actually thought it would have more payload. I could not see the payload sticker cause it was at another dealer. I really thought cause it has the same axle it would have more. I think I will just get some 350 springs. Everything else is the same. Axle , hitch it's really stupid to put a fifth wheel package in a truck with high capacity tow and it not really be able to tow a fifth wheel. I've only had truck 2 days I may go back see if I can upgrade
Your 250 suffers from being capped at a 10k GVWR by being a class 2 truck. In reality, it is identical to a SRW 350 but for a touch lighter rear spring pack. You won't get honest physical ratings or payload from your stickers due to the 10k cap. So, are you trying to stay safe physically or legally? Physically your truck can do just about anything a SRW 350 can. In the rare event of a legal issue you'd be stuck trying to defend that position. It's up to you as to what your risk tolerance is. Personally, I'm not very concerned with rare events but everyone is different and has to make that decision for themselves.
