e99 hub swap ?
Looks like it's no longer cheaper to swap up to the L99 Hubs. Right now off RockAuto, the Timken E99 hubs are $100.89 and the Timken L99 hubs are $184.89 each. Unless brake rotors offset a large part of the $168 difference to do both sides, I guess I'll be sticking with the old style parts. If it were only $5 or $10 per, I'd do it... but $168... I'll keep that cash.
I'm in the middle of a front-end refresh and needed to get unit bearings, so I ordered the ones I saw that were $83 cheaper (Timken 515022). Well, turns out those are for a "Light Duty" 1999 F250 Super Duty.... whatever that is. I know about the "1998 F250" (leftover '97's) and the 1999 F250 (called Light Duty - 7 lug wheels) but a 1999 Super Duty "Light Duty"..???? Anyway... Looks like I can get the early 99 parts with 4 wheel ABS for about the same price, but then rotors are way more expensive. So we're back to it actually being more economical to do the swap up to Late-99 hubs & rotors. It's not cheap, but with the miles I put on my truck... last time I bought brake pads was 2010. I guess I just need to bite the bullet and do the swap up to newer gear. It's less expensive and tons more options as well, which means if I'm ever out on the road and need replacements, they'll be easier to get.
