I have a 96 f-150 2wd I6 and I need to replace the rotors... I was wondering if since I need to replace the rotors, can I replace the hubs as well with newer hubs to fit the new ford rim bolt pattern?
No you can't do that, later model takes a sealed hub assembly. Its serviced/sold as a sealed unit, its a completely different animal by comparison. Think "Explorer" hub style.
The rotors are pressed on to the hubs via the lugs. You can get just rotors or you can get the whole assembly as I did. Check my build thread if you wanna see pics of the install.
always Glad to hear from folks that know what they are talking about not the ones that think they do. the rotors and hubs are 2 piece for the 4wd F250 and F350...I assume that's what you have.
Think you guys might be missing the point, either that or I am.
Seams the OP wants to change bolt pattern to use the later model rims, to that end wants to change hubs with the rotors to do so. No question asked on how to go about changing rotors "as built".
I read it as wants to change from the 1954 tru 1995 at 5X139.7 (5x5.5") to the newer 1996 tru 2000 at 5X135 size in the process of doing the rotor replace. Presumably likes what the later model offers in rim "style"?
I apologize, I did miss that last line. Dang mobile internet service and their tiny font.
I would have to agree with Danr1 on that, I don't think you can swap to the newer bolt pattern. Since the 97+ trucks had a 8.8 inch front axle instead of the D44 TTB and of course have the different lug pattern.
If you are in fact just looking to run rims, you will prolly just be better off finding a set that fits. Thee are plenty of wheels that are 5x5.5
