Hi and Thanks for your help.
2015 F350 6.2 S.D 4 door 8' bed.
Is there a way to test the brake controller by a average Joe?
It has worked good for a few years but we purchased a new trailer about a year ago and the brakes did work well for most of a year. Then I had to turn up the braking power to 10 and now a days it's only braking 50% of what it used too. We did take the trailer in last weekend and they did test the trailer by itself and stated the trailer is 100% good on the brakes. They went over how they tested it with us. I pretty much trust this RV service manager, but of course nobody is perfect.
Any advice on how to test the factory brake controller besides taking it in to the dealer? Of course if that is what we have to do then so be it. I just wanted to give it a try myself if possable.
Do you have another trailer you could borrow to hook up to make absolutely sure it's not the trailer? Or else have a friend hook up to your trailer to see if they also now get the problem
Unfortunately I do not have access to another trailer to test..................... i've only had a few minutes to investigate the links I was referred to but so far it seems like this is a common problem with other super duties. Two of the other people have the same exact problem that I have. For the first six months or so the brake controller worked 100% perfect and then started slowly going downhill. For the first six months the brake controller worked at setting six and now it doesn't even work 50% good at setting 10. A few others had that same exact problem.
I have the same issue, which I never completely resolved, but I think it's a ground issue.
I've replaced the truck end plug and the trailer pigtail, with no improvement.
The links posted are useless, and none of them confirm a definitive, verified, permanent fix.
I did buy a tester online that tells me that the truck output is fine, my trailer brakes seem fine, but the circuit with the trailer harness plugged into the truck isn't ok...probably a high resistance ground.
Thank you for your reply. I 100% agree with you that I do not see a solid fix in the other posts. I am in the same boat with you. It might not mean much but I am taking my F350 to the dealer next week for a few warranty items. It will be interesting to see what they say. Meanwhile in the next few days I will be hitting all the websites to see if anybody has came up with anything solid on the repair. Thank you again for your reply.
Sorry thought I linked to this above, but I missed copying it in Have a look at this, you may need a test light and a volt meter to perform some of the checks. Hope this helps
If you or the dealer solves your brake controller problem don't forget to post what the fix was, it may help others with the issue solve their problems. Good luck and hope the solution works
The issue is that I haven't found a single post on any Internet forum where someone confirmed a fix for the poor braking performance described by the op.
Lots of speculation, but no instances of "I had the same issue, and this is what I found to cure the malady".

I Cant say if the link was posted before, all I know is I missed posting in my previous posted links. He was looking for a way to troubleshoot and test, that link was to help him do it. I have seen people post different things they have tried, whether they worked a sa solution well that's another story.
It;s one of the reason I mentioned earlier for Rumpityrump to let us know if he or the dealer solved his issue. Lots of folks scour the net looking for way to track down a problem and try to find a solution.
I haven't has this happen to me on either of the trucks I have that have the factory controller, fortunate maybe? maybe not. I can sympathise with you guys though I love my factory controller, I still think the OEM beats the aftermarket one by a long shot.... except when trouble arises of course.
