HELP.. BARO using TP for 6.0L. Blowing TONS of smoke
Hi all.. hoping SOMEONE on here can help me. I've got a 2004 F350 6.0 that's blowing TONS of black smoke. Performance is fine.. Just can't see anyone in my rear view due to the cloud I'm putting out. The SHORT version here is.. I can't get BARO from the PCM using TP and OBDLink MX BT. Yes, I've downloaded the extended PID's for Ford. The only Baro that works is the one pulling from the phone (Android).
Also, some of suggested I take readings KOEO but I get no readings from the PCM with KO.
As to the actual problem, black smoke at all RPM, hot or cold. MUCH worse on acceleration. No detectable roughness in idle or higher RPM's. Slight AUDIBLE puffing like maybe one cylinder is off, but with a diesel, who knows. Originally I was throwing P132B, P0401, and P0278. Cleared codes and now nothing but the P1000 so probably the jury is still out. I've changed out the EGR (used OEM Ford) and decided to due some maintenance (oil change incl filter, fuel filters incl drain water, air filter, drained tank and added new fuel + injector cleaner. The problem remains.. maybe even a little worse.
As for readings..
Idle:
VGT 72
IAT2 146
IPR 24.7
InjPW 1248
FMP (FICM V) 48 (and the the FICM low V's were both 12.5)
Vacuum 2.2 (this is vac/boost gauge)
MAP 0.2
On another test, I did initial readings after truck sat over 24 hours sitting in garage. Where I have ==> in the lines below.. shows the numbers after complete warmup, also at idle. All are with truck running. First number is cold right after started. Second is warm
For VGT, on accel with engine load above 80% and RPM above 2000, i'd drop to the upper 30's. From my log, hard to tell when I was at a static speed above 45 so don't want to speculate there. VGT is around 70 at idle.
I'm new to diesel so pls don't laugh at my reasoning here. I've got no loss in power which tells me i'm getting adequate fuel and air and that my turbo is OK. It doesn't run rough at all which tells me that my injectors are OK. There's no difference in cold vs hot performance (not sure what I can conclude from that). The exhaust smells only of heavy soot.. not fuel, no coolant, no oil. So I'm assuming my EGR cooler is fine and no cracks in turbo housing. No soot in engine bay and no sounds of hissing/leaks either, so I'm assuming my seals are all good.
I'm really trying to avoid experimenting with injectors and FICM until I've confirmed the sensors are OK and I just can't get to the BARO for some reason..
Thanx for any help anyone can provide!

Nope.. totally stock in every way.. Also, I was driving it more trying to get it to throw codes (none yet) and the smoke MIGHT be white/black (no blue). If there's white, I only notice it at idle.. so I'm wondering about the EGR cooler. When I pulled the EGR (each time.. did it twice), there was no moisture or caked soot. The original EGR was pretty darn clean but I switched it out anyway. If the cooler, would I still have normal performance?
SCORE!! fails the bubble test.. You guys are great! OK.. so next question.. I originally threw a code on no.6. Is it safe to assume that's my target? Or am I going to have to do the glow plug thing?

Take out the center standpipe in the fuel filter housing there are two holes see which side the bubbles come out of that will tell you what side you need to address. But yes you will have to do the glowplugs thing
