For a stock height Ex wanting do to some froadin I'd suggest a firmer then stock shock, You only have about 5" of suspension travel so it's critical to keep it from bottoming out.

And yes, ARB's are spendy. Personally I would use a trutrac LSD for the type of use you described.

Mike- No kidding! You were spot on

Pirate- I'm going to keep my eyes open for a good deal. At this point I just need to figure out which shocks to get. Those are the only things that really need replacing currently. I'll probably figure out the locker situation once I get all the little things done. Got some cleaning up to do under the hood.

BB,
I'd suggest living with your open diffs for a while. I've been amazed at how far one can get 'froadin' in 4wd low in the nearly stock Ex. Spots that look impassible are possible with a little momentum, smart line of attack and ground clearance. Note, I don't do mud, just the dezert and mtn's. It's amazing what you can find out there in the boonies.

In the mean time, get a source of on board air so you can run lower tire pressure off road and then inflate your tires before you get back on pavement.

Truth is, proper (lower) tire psi will get you to the 99% of the places you would be willing to take an excursion.

Also.... don't forget the bump stops, those front ones are an intrigal part of your suspension and nessasary.

Haha, fair enough. I'll drive it a while and see when or if I get stuck.

What's a good OBA system for these? Where are you guys putting the tanks? (Will be looking this up as well).

Pirate-LOL I may have to make some out of unobtainium!

I use the ARB compressor and also have a viar 420c for my horn.
you don't need a tank for filling tires. I also have a Power tank but don't typically carry that unless going to the races.

For occasional use a plug into your cigeratte lighter style el cheapo from Harbor freight works just fine... anything really, as long as it eventually inflates the tires, hell a hand bycicle pump would do if you are not in a hurry.

While you are thinking air and tires.. get a plug kit.

Thanks for the part numbers!
Been carrying a plug kit around for years. I'm one of those guys that usually has way more tools with me than I'll need, but you know the saying.

Shopping around the pumps don't look half bad price wise. Was going to add a tank along the frame but seems like a failure point that is a bit unnecessary and maybe even cumbersome. I'll keep working this one

This thread made me check my bump stops....rears look new....fronts are gone completely.

Ordered the Dorman fronts from Amazon. $45

The Motorcraft shocks 'look' ok, and the truck rides/handles great with or without the trailer.

If I do replace the front shocks, is there a reason why I shouldn't replace with another set of Motorcrafts?

The wife wants 1 more as a tie-breaker but you know how that goes! Maybe in a couple years. Congrats on a good size family, I've noticed a direct correlation between guys with big families and their willingness to help others. Makes for a nice world.

Glad to see so many big families on here!

Back to trucks, what are you guys running for fuel additive? I used to run 2 cycle but saw that study/charts and apparently it is nowhere near the best thing to run. You guys have any reallife input? They used an HFRR machine. Seriously looking at picking up some of the OptiLube XPD. Want this thing to last a lifetime.

Also, came home to some goodies on the deck:
Mike, got my O-ring kit from Diesel O-rings and the silicone tubing for the vacuum hose replacement. Went with 10ft but I think I may have erred and will need more.
Got 4 replacement door lock actuators as well. The question is, do I do the DIY mod on them now and avoid having to do it later or are the new ones good to go? Assuming it's the more difficult of those 2 options.
Seems UPS messed up some sorting and sent my stuff back to Oregon (Riff Raff) and I won't be getting it until the 18th of July so a lot of stuff is on hold currently. Guess I can start cleaning up the engine bay.
