Ford Molded Mud Flaps Rub Paint??

Hey Guys, getting ready to throw my set of the Ford Molded flaps on for vacation. We are going to northern Minnesota, with a lot of gravel road travel so figured it couldn't hurt. I plan to take them back off when I get home, It looks like the plastic touches a little bit on the lip of the fender, have any of you running them noticed if its rubbing or scratching the paint there? I thought about putting some fuzz with self adhesive in there but that may make it worse.

Thanks!

I can tell you that on my 04 I removed them and the paint was destroyed underneath.

In my life long experience; mud flaps tend to protect the item you're towing and other vehicles on the road more than they protect the vehicle they're mounted too. Yes they rub paint, yes they cause corrosion in mounting holes, and nope they won't be going on my 17 SD.

They collect a lot of grit between the flaps & fender lip, took them off to clean underneth. Left them off when I saw how much grit had collected.

I ordered some Weathertech mud flaps, wonder if they'll do the same thing. I noticed that the Husky mud flaps come with clear protective tape to apply before bolting the flaps on. I was tempted to get those, but believe you have to drill holes to mount them, which you don't with the Weathertech ones.

Maybe the thing to do is to find a facsimile of the Husky protective tape and slap it on first?

The front corners of my little trailer got all chipped up by not using mudflaps, so I thought I'd better get some before upgrading to an F250 and a new, bigger, and nicer trailer.

I have both the husky and the weather tech's, either one there's no drilling. Weather techs are bigger.

I have the weather techs and they touch the fender slightly. I think i'm going to take them off. If you'd like them, they're for sale

Thanks, but I think four mudflaps will be enough for one truck!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure that ANY mudlap can be mounted without some rubbing/entrapment. I also don't understand how a good set of mudflaps won't keep the rocker panels noticeably cleaner and less pitted.

Pay now or pay later. You'll see the chips on the rockers, you'll not SEE the rub UNDER the flaps. I put a solid film of RTV sealer under mine when I install them.

This.
One good run down a gravel road and you will forever wish you had them.
They are the first thing to go on any of my new trucks. I use Gatorback and nothing else. I never had any problems with paint or corrosion and my old 1999 had them on for 11 years when I sold it.

I think you all are looking at long term and this guy is going vacation for I assume a month. Really if that's the case why bother?

Most mud flaps are for life and used to stop large rocks being thrown. Not many people put a ton of thought into rubbing mainly because the heavy mud flaps are mounted outside of the pained visible area.

I would not bother wasting the money. If you buy them keep them on for life.

Only bothering because my normal driving at home does not lead me down gravel roads. It literally took me all of 30 minutes to install all four of the Ford Flaps. 30 minutes vs. my rockers getting pelted with rocks is worth it to me. I put a small piece of the fuzz where they hit the paint. Hope it all works out. Thanks for all the opinions.
