Hey guys, I washed my truck today, and got looking very close at it, and behind all the wheels on the sides, I have multiple small chips or nicks in my paint, I am getting very worried now that it will ruin my paint job later in the trucks life. I do have mud flaps, and the good running boards, but it appears to be getting past them and hitting the side door, and box sides.
Would I be nuts to take it to my dealer and see what they say? I havent had the truck for 6 months yet, its an 2011.
I am buying bushwacker fender flares tomorrow night online, as I am not liking this much. Just what exactly can be done about multiple tiny paint nicks all over?
I wash my truck twice weakly, only sees pavement, and I am not dumb when I wash it either.
If you are concerned I would get the clear film installed on the lower quarters to protect them. I think without seeing how bad they are it is tough to make an accurate assessment. However, based on what you stated, I personally think that what you describe is normal and there is nothing "defective". It is part of normal wear and tear of the truck and caused from driving it. I'm not trying to say you are wrong for not wanting it to happen to your truck, but I don't think the dealership is responsible or Ford.
Not sure if the dealer will help. The fender flares should prevent future chips. I did the invisishield (like clear bra) on the hood, down the side (about 12-16 inches up) and the wheel wells a couple of days after taking delivery of the truck. It's worked great. I still want to add the Bushwackers though...
Speaking from someone with an 8 year old truck, agree, bushwhackers and clear film Protestant. Miy 2005 came with a few pieces, you need more, lots more. I even have some more major rock chips on the side which are now dime size spots with no paint. Lots of gravel and sand on our roads here. Sucks!
Yeah I think you guys are probably right, the thing is they aren't low on the truck, they are mid section, a few even higher, but I doubt there is really anything else they would do. I am buying the flares today, and getting em painted, so I'll be able to put them on soon then. Thanks for the input!
bushwacker flares on two years=no paint where they rub on body. Not a good option
Yeah I spoke with a few people that said they didn't do that, and I have seen others where it does. Im not exactly sure how to prevent that, they come with a rubber seal around them correct? but the rubber will still wear paint.
Yes the rubber will still wear the paint. If you don't ever get your truck dirty with heavy mud on them they might be alright.Mine were always caked with this kind of mud from work and the extra weight of the mud would cause the flares to move on the paint. After I discovered this I would carry a putty knife and scrape the mud off when I got off site.
For what it's worth..... Mine (bushwacker flares) have been on for a little over 2 years and 90,000 kM. The paint is not gone uder them but there is definately a visible mark in it. Does not bother me, they are not coming off.
Little scratches don't bother me either...... it a truck

I'm surprised... The Oxford White paint has been pretty durable. Another thing is to stay away from wide gap tread tires. The wider the gap, the bigger the rock it will throw onto your truck.
I agree, mud flaps and a set of tubular steps prevent a lot of damage as long as a stock width tire is used. With wider tires, extended flares and wider flaps are needed. I have been always heavily opposed to the side steps on these trucks, especially if you are doing any off roading. However, recently I followed two superduties down the highway after a heavy rain. One had the stock tubular steps, the other nothing. It was amazing how much spray the steps knocked down and kept below the rocker panels. That changed my mind on the steps.
