i have a 2015 6.2 litre supperduty love my truck have 70 000 km on it I work out of town and truck sits when I get home and start her up sounds like all the oil is out of top end and rattles bad fo 30 to 40 seconds been looking at a new one should I deal it anyone else have this issue ???
the reason it seems random is it is 1 or 2 hydraulic lash adjusters bleeding down. Depending on what postion the crank and cams stop when you turn the engine off. If it happens to be pushing a valve open when the engine stops rotating and that is the weak lash adjuster it will bleed the oil out, and the next time you start it , it ticks till it pumps up with oil again. i agree very frustrating. The only thing i found to improve this is when you get to where your going and park let the truck idle for about a 1-2 min. before shutting it off. My theory is it allows the oil to cool some and thicken up a bit ,and the cam adjusters move to a nuetral postion
Mine has done that occasional since new and it has 48k on it right now. mine will only make the noise for 3 or 4 seconds though.
If you want to build up oil pressure before starting the engine so it doesn't tick I believe you can hold the throttle down which allows the engine to crank but not start. I used to do this on my '05 F150 to circulate oil through the system after an oil change.
