So I use to be on the forum here a lot, but I sold my 99 F350 and bought my 2015 F350 with the 6.7. I custom ordered my truck and received it in august of 2014 and have not had to work on a thing.
It's approaching 70k miles on it now and I think I am ready for the delete. Question is, what is the general consensus on the best way to go? What I know I want is just a delete pipe for the DPF, I do want to delete the EGR completely not just blank it off, and minimal tuning. This truck has more power than I need and I'd trade efficiency over black smoke now a days.
What would y'all do? I am plenty mechanically inclined to do the work, but cost and timing may have me just drop it off. What kit should I go with or should I be looking at individual components? What else am I missing? does the charge piping need any upgrades?
Mike at No Limit Fabrication would be my choice for a vendor if I were in your shoes. I believe he's active on one of those other forums, but not this one.
I bought the sct tuner and exhaust with muffler and the block plates and did the delete myself in a few hours. 10 months ago and 12000 miles and havent looked back. i did mine at 30k and even though still under warranty, i was tired of messing with the def and worrying about making oil
Thanks for the responses. I have a reputable shop around the corner that I talked to over the weekend and may just take it to him. Only issue is its 2200 bucks and that gets me a flo-pro delete pipe, sinister EGR delete kit, and the SCT X4 with custom tunes installed. Not a bad price for parts and labor, but I am tempted to do it myself since the exhaust and sinister kit will run me about 200 each and a SCT X4 with tunes is 600-700.
Question I have is, are the tunes on the SCT X4 7015 good to go from SCT for the deletes or does it require a custom tune? If so who do y'all recommend?
I see i can get it all from No Limit, but i'd like to research the tuning portion a little more before buying something.
I bought my kit from a local and I am sure he got it from no limit. I used the sct first to delete then after, went to a tow tune then back to stock after a while just to compare. i have no interest in roaching my motor with a hot tune, just wanted to be able to delete which it did perfectly. i bought my kit in last sept.
it is very easy to do yourself with the hardest part simply wrestling the rocketship off the hangers. the block off plate requires a little attention as the bolt that holds on the tube on the intake will be stuck and you will need to hit it with some sort of penetrating oil so you dont break it off. I soaked mine several times over several days and it came off easily but several have broken theirs off.
I really did not want to go to the extreme of deleting but after fighting my 6.0 and have a def fault and readking about the trucks making oil during regen, i finally made up my mind to do it. I will keep driving this truck another 7 or 8 years at the minimum and the better chance i have of not having silly problems!
I bought everything I needed from Rudy's Diesel. I went with the 5" Flo-Pro no muffler, Rudy's EGR delete block-offs, S&B Intake, and H&S Mini Maxx. I think I paid roughly $1700 for everything. I did the work with my buddy at a friends shop, took longer then expected removing the EGR, but that's how everything goes for me..Murphy's Law
I used the tune that came on the Mini Maxx, no custom tune. Everything functions fine, I'm happy with it. The only thing that would make me happier would be if the Mini Maxx had a turbo timer built in...but whatever.
I went with Rudy's Diesel as well. Earlier today I ordered the EZ Lynk tuner with PPEI tunes, Rudy's egr delete kit, and the Flopro stainless delete pipe. I already had a dpf-back exhaust and an s&b intake so I didn't need an intake or a full exhaust. Rudy's still let's you buy partial dpf delete kits, even if you opt to not buy certain parts unlike some sites which only give you a discount if you buy all parts in the package. Wife had an iPad mini that she never uses and offered it to me as the monitor for the EZ Lynk!
I forgot to add that PPEI tunes are very clean tunes and don't smoke a lot. I meant to mention that since you stated you'd like a tune without a lot of smoke. That's the reason I went with PPEI, they are clean tunes and the trans tuning seems to be flawless from everyone that comments on their experiences with PPEI. They were more expensive but I figured if I was going to do it, I'd do it right the first time. My parts from Rudy's get here tomm and we will likely tackle the job next weekend. I'll let you know how it drives when I get it completed
