Hi guys, I ran a search but found nothing specifically pertaining to this.
Okay, here's the deal. I bought an 84 full-size Bronco last year, and I am starting to realize that this thing has had more surgery done on it than Michael Jackson. So, in an attempt to clean the trucks guts up, I'm tackling the issues one at a time.
Here's the one I'm on now: While preparing to fix my non-functioning speedometer, I noticed that there is a speed sensor between the upper and lower speedometer cables. This sensor has wires leading to a black box of sorts, which has linkage to the carb. I couldn't find any pictures on the net or in my book, but if I had to guess, I'd say it was the cruise control system.
That's just great, because there are no cruise control 'controls' in the cab. So, since I cant turn it on, and have no real desire to use cruise control anyway...
Has anyone here ever removed the cruise control system from their truck (4.9L), and if so do you have any tips? Also, are there any publications I could look at to help make the job go smooth? Or, does it not really matter, and should I just leave the stuff in there?
I would say the Haynes or the Chilton would have your info. Or go to the libeary and get the big *** repare manual that tells you everything about everything about spesific veichels my local liberary has them anyway, to bad there refrence books.
Wow... I'm so stuck in the "computer age", I didn't even think of the library. Our local tax dollars just built a brand new one too. I'll have to stop by and see what they've got.
You can remove the "sensor" and the linkage to the carburetor. You will need replace the speedo cable with a one piece cable. Some one may have a coupler to connect the 2 cables, but I don't know who would make or sell them. Unhooking the wires from the sensor should not affect anything.
