voltage regulator

Does anyone know if I need a mechanical or electronic voltage regulator? I have a Motocraft 1G alternator.

From what I remember a 1G needs an external regulator, a 2G does not.

You want the electronic but can put the old mechanical cover on the electronic if you want to retain the original appearance.

Either regulator is fine but the electronic will give better service (IMO).

Use an electronic one. You can find NOS or NORS American made ones on eBay. For example a GR540 fits 1968-1990 on there now. Just double check the part number and application.

Many American made manufacturers available and probably better than the import stuff.
