For those of you the 3.5 ecoboost that are getting 18+ mpg. What gears are you running? I have read many claims of getting good mileage but in the few ecoboost trucks I have driven in on longer trips I have never seen above 16. So are people just lying or is it there gearing.
When we are empty or even just a cab full of passengers and modest amounts of "stuff" in the back, we get a pretty consistent 21-22 MPG. Ours has 3.31 gears, and it's the 157" wheelbase (mostly freeway).
When we're pulling the TT, we get between 11 and 13 depending.
You can usually deduct between 1/2 and a whole MPG between the LOM and reality. That's also depending.
If we're just driving around town, it seems to be in the 18-19 range. Although "sometimes" it creeps up to 20. I don't understand that.

My truck is the CC short box with the 3.55 rear diff. I'm getting about 18mpg (because the truck's lie-o-meter say 19mpg+) running 65-70mph on flat roads. This is a drop of 5-10% from stock as I've added 800lbs of canopy, skid plates, heavy tires and gear (weight gain measured at state run truck scales).
Be aware we have a mix of trucks here. The '15-16 MY have a 6 speed tranny with the first gen EB, while the 17's+ have a 10 speed with the 2nd generation EB.
My truck is a 2017, so it has the 10 speed tranny. Other than that, it's 4x4, 3.5EB, 157" wheelbase, 3.55 gears and 20" wheels.
I have had the truck for less than a month, but have 1000 miles on it. My ligpfetime average is 19 or 20 mpg on the lie-o-meter. I did hand calculate a tank, I think the dash said 19.2 and hand calculation was like 18.45.
Here is a couple pictures I took last November the 19 mpg one is low normal I just out of Abilene heading west.
Mileage from Tucson
This one was a shock, I had filled up with Top Tier gas in El Paso and was surprised as it had never been that high before. It actually got to 22.9 by the time I reached Tucson but traffic was too heavy to snap a photo.
Mileage To Tucson.
As you can see i had the cruise set on both pictures I swear I reset the tank at each fill-up and did not rest to "cheat". I had me (185 lb) and about 350 lbs of cargo. I have 2015 Screw lariat 5.5 bed with a Hard Hat tri fold, 3.5 Eco, 3.31 gears. I have the 36 gallon tank and used 3 tanks for the entire trip. Initial fillup Abilene TX., 1st fillup Mile Marker 2 Valero truck stop El Paso. Second and last fillup the very same station in Elpaso. While in Tucson every tip that was made including 2 trips up in the mountains were made in my truck. I had the only vehicle that would carry 6 people and I was the lightweight!I averaged 20.6 for the entire trip, best mileage ever for a trip. Normal to South Texas Through the Hill Country is usually 19.4 - 19.6 round trip.
This shows my dash display. There is a lot of idle time in there because I live in an urban area....a dozen stop lights between me and my office. Actually, with the traffic, I'm truly amazed to be doing so well on mpg.
If my hand calculation discrepancy is consistent, then you can subtract about 0.75mpg from what the dash shows and what I would see from a hand calculation.
My truck has the 3.55 gears. Lifetime average fuel mileage is 20.6 mpg - and that's hand calculated (I enter all data into an Excel spreadsheet). Truck has just shy of 12,000 miles on it now. The lie-o-meter in the dash tells me I'm getting 21-22 mpg.
Very few stop signs or stop lights - very little traffic where I live. Those are the things that bring down your fuel mileage.
I get 17.5 average. 3.55 gears and 34" tires. I lost I mpg with the bigger tires. As TJReams noted above, my MPG seems to increase when I'm at a higher elevation. At 7,500 plus feet I average over 19 mpg. That was for a week in the Ruidoso/Cloudcroft area.
My 2012 is a Super Crew 4x4 with the 3.5L & 373 gears. The MPGs are pretty speed sensitive on the highway. If I keep it below 75 it'll get me 17 to 18 most of the time. I would think a 2015+ would do better.
Mine is a '17 Lariat Super Cab 4X4, 6.5' bed with hard tonneau cover, 3.5 with 10 speed and 3.55 rear. I've got 7K on it and around town (the town being New York City) I'm getting 18 and I have no trouble getting 21 on the highway with cruise at 75 and A/C on.
We've got 3.55's and just finished a round trip to AL in May, about 1100 miles and we avg. just under 24mpg coming & going. Truck was empty except for passengers and light luggage. Cruised at 67-68, with and without a/c.
