64 hood puckey

64 hood puckey

I sand blasted my hood of my 64 and primed it with epoxy primmer but now I have some kind of stuff coming out of the bottom side of the hood where the 2 meet towards the hinge side even found a piece of masonite in there what should I put in there? thanks for your help mike

Sometimes old oil residue is really hard to eliminate and, even after sandblasting, starts to seep out. You might try a wax and grease remover prior to painting...or risk fish-eyes. As for the insulating material...they stapled a fiber-type material (like oil-board) between panels and reinforcements in some areas, such as under the hood, before they spot welded them together. As for replacing it...in my cab I used a closed-cell high density foam. Under the hood it might not look so good. There are classic auto restoration suppliers who make a replacement material. Getting in place and gluing or securing it is another story. I'm sure that there are minds on FTE who have a solution!

I have a sausage tube of that glue they put in windshields in with I was thinking (dangerous) if I tape the out side of the seam and fill the crack this stuff if it would do any good ?

I'm not sure...how that material takes paint. It might be o.k. I think most people just don't put anything in there.
