Can anyone tell me how to replace the bulb in the column mounted gearshift indicator for my 78 model. I have only found 1 thread on this and it seemed like there was conflicting info vs older columns as to whether or not the steering wheel and upper column parts had to be removed.
Is it simply by removing the lower trim cover from the dash and looking up the column from the back? It is definately a 78 model.
I could be wrong...but I'm fairly certain you will need to remove the steering wheel. If I recall correctly the light is part of the turn signal switch. So once the wheel is removed you should have no problems changing the bulb.
The shroud is a separate part, it's not part of the dial. Both are located on the upper flange. There's no way to access the bulb, because it's inside the flange.
The plastic shift dial pointer slips into a slot of the shift collar. The bulb socket is part of the T/S switch.
From what I see in the parts catalog pic, the only way the bulb can be accessed is by removing the steering wheel and the T/S switch, as the bulb is located on the front side of it.
Transmission selector dial lamp bulb is industry #1445 H/D
